The Great Chase Community Series has just completed a monumental 20th year of racing. The series began with a community day at Shepparton on the 8th of September and concluded on Wednesday the 21st of September at the Meadows.
And once again, local Victorian community disability groups were the big winners.
This year greyhound clubs across Victoria, including Warragul, Bendigo, Sandown, Sale, Ballarat, Warrnambool, Geelong, and Traralgon, welcomed 102 disability care organisations and more than 1124 people - those living with disabilities and their carers. The Great Chase -held over ten community days at metropolitan and regional greyhound clubs across Victoria - distributed more than $27,000 in prizemoney to participating local community disability groups even before the semi-final and finals were conducted.
Each greyhound in The Great Chase Final ran for a care organisation, with each one receiving $3,000 regardless of finishing position. The winning group The Support People Organisation took home the $10,000 first prize with the help of Anthony Azzopardi and his star greyhound All Spritzed Up. The total prize pool distributed throughout the 2022 edition of The Great Chase has yielded $58,000 for these incredibly worthy community organisations.
The Support People Organisation could not be more grateful for the donation. They believe that people living with a disability deserve to have choice and control over how they live their lives to the best of their ability.
The Great Chase is a long-standing community program of charitable race days held at Victoria’s greyhound clubs. Over the years it raised more than $750,000 for groups that care for those with a disability and their carers.
