The popular Greyhound Adoption Program is holding a massive three-day adoption weekend from the 20th to the 22nd of January with organisers urging Victorians to open their hearts and homes to a new “paw” friend.
The Greyhound Adoption Program or GAP aims to find loving homes for retired greyhounds which either no longer race or didn’t quite make it to the track.
Created over 26 years ago GAP is a world leader in greyhound rehoming and will have more than 50 greyhounds up for adoption at the weekend event at Seymour.
All greyhounds up for adoption have undergone a thorough temperament assessments to ensure they are safe around small dogs and to be un-muzzled in public. All greyhounds adopted from GAP are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and health checked.
Greyhound Clubs Victoria CEO Brett Jones said the work done by GAP adds to the industry’s efforts ensuring greyhounds are cared for after they leave the racetrack.
Mr Jones said, “When the greyhounds are under our care and supervision, we strive to ensure that they receive the best facilities, medical assistance as well as a loving environment. With GAP, we ensure the greyhounds find a loving home and a pet-parent willing to extend the same care and affection towards these dogs who will make wonderful pets.”
And in good news for any potential new owner, this weekend, all fees have been waived! And there will be experts on hand to answer any queries about the breed or any particular “paw” friend anyone wants to take home.
Amongst the greyhounds featured will be Koko a friendly, affectionate, confident dog who is 4 years old. She loves people and is super friendly. The adoption event will be held at 298 Goulburn Valley Hwy, Seymour, and will be open from 2pm to 6pm on Friday 20th January and from 10am to 3pm on 21st and 22nd January.
